Setup Is the Product

OpenAI’s ChatGPT for Financial Services is easy to file as another vertical release.

I think that misses the point.

The important part is not finance. It is setup. Built-in data. Connected sources. Analysis workflows close enough to the work that the user does not have to assemble the room before the meeting can start.

That is where many AI rollouts break. Not at the model. At the prep.

A team gets access to a capable assistant, then every useful task begins with the same unpaid labor: find the right file, paste the current numbers, explain the format, check the source, rebuild the context, warn the model what not to do.

After a few weeks, the miracle becomes another tab.

The next product fight: who removes the most setup from valuable work without making the system harder to trust.

For leaders, the test is simple.

Pick one recurring decision. Map the data, output, owner, reviewer, and success measure. If the AI cannot enter that workflow with most of the setup already solved, you are not buying an operating improvement yet.

You are buying homework.
